any ant of a group of herbs of the fumitory family, especially a delicate, annual plant having finely dissected leaves and spikes of small flesh-colored flowers tipped with crimson. It is common in England, has been introduced into the southern and western United States, and was formerly used in medicine as a tonic, alterative, and diaphoretic.
